Geeks Without God go to Church?
This week’s Geeks Without God episode is an interview with our friend Bob Alberti, who attends a Unitarian Church. And yet he’s an atheist. We talked with him about his experience as a Unitarian Universalist and why he wanted to go to a church given that he most definitely does not believe in god. We’ve actually been doing a passingly decent job of staying on topic with our guests lately. Listen in and see how we do this week.
Geeks Without God Cover the Oscars!
Another week, another podcast! I was pretty excited to record this week’s episode because we were doing a geeky boner episode and I had a pretty big one. Heh heh. Yes, I know I can be pretty immature somethimes.
This week, I got to talk Oscars! Yes, I know they are kind of ridiculous and they always seem to be voting for movies that a different generation enjoys and the film that wins the Best Picture Oscar is rarely one of the top five films that came out in a particular year.
But I geek out over them anyway. And Molly and Nick were very patient with me. They allowed me to geek out about them for a very long time. So thanks, Nick and Molly!
You can listen for yourself and decide if they should have shut me up sooner!
Geeks Without God Goes Back in Time
This week, Geeks Without God enters the wayback machine to have a conversation with Ronn Bauman of the Tortuga Twins. We recorded the episode several months ago during the Minnesota Renaissance festival and saved it until just now.
Actually, we had recorded our first episode with Ronn and it went so well, we all decided to record a second episode right away. We knew we wanted to save it for a while but we probably ended up waiting a little longer than we originally planned. We waited so long, in fact, that the five questions rule he created actually debuted before we aired the podcast that establishes the rule!
The rule Ronn created was that return guests have to ask the hosts five questions.
Before we get to that, though, we talked about zombies and guns and raising your kids as atheists. It was a rambling and lively conversation. Please enjoy!
New Vilification Tennis Silliness
We’ve been having a few problems with the Vilification Tennis website as of late so updates have been slow to come. This week, though, we have managed to get things a little bit sorted out and there is some new stuff to read and listen to.
Specifically, I wrote a new Movie Dick article about the Oscars. I think it captures the averager person’s opinion of the Oscars pretty well.
There’s also a new Vilification Tennis podcast that involves a whole lot of misogyny in preparation for our February show, the White Male Priviledge show. Don’t worry. It’s ironic misogyny. That makes it better, right?
Double the Podcasting Goodness
As has been the case for over six months now, Tuesday morning is reserved for a new episode of Geeks Without God. This week’s episode is devoted to the fundamentalist Christian film Left Behind which, I was surprised to discover, wasn’t just offensive and stupid, it was also horribly bad.
Given how much the three of us suffered for our “art,” you should head on over and listen to the results of our pain.
As if that wasn’t enough, last week we launched Fearless Comedy. You may have heard me mention it.
At the launch party, Joshua Humphrey of the TC Theatre Podcast interviewed Jena Young (our marketing director and co-author of the YoungNotions blog) and myself about the launch party and the new company.

Geeks Without God was recorded LIVE! Well, it’s always recorded live but…
This weekend we recorded Geeks Without God in front of a live audience with guest Aric McKeown. I won’t deny I was pretty nervous about it since you never know how that sort of thing is going to go. I shouldn’t have worried.
We were first up and since we figured people would be coming in at various points throughout the evening, we assumed that the audience at 6:30 would be relatively small. Wow were we wrong. In fact, there were at least fifty people there when we started recording. Most of them seemed to be enjoying the show.
I was also trying out my portable audio recorder. We had it plugged directly into the sound board and having listened to the podcast, I have to say that it turned out amazingly well. I really look forward to the next time we can do a live recording using the same technology.
Oh yeah, and Aric is a funny funny guy.
So here’s the link to this week’s show. Click on through if you want!
It is Monday Morning – Must be Time to Gloat
It’s been over a month since we recorded a Vilification Tennis podcast and even though we were tired as hell, we decided we should record it after the Fearless launch party on Saturday. This could have been a horrible decision had the event been a disastrous failure.
The event was instead a huge success. Thanks to a great many people, we raised better than half of our operating budget for the year and it is rumored that the wacky comedy to which we subjected our audience was both wacky and comedic.
All things considered, we were blown away by the success of the event. That meant we were pretty euphoric when we recorded the podcast. Which beats the alternative. Eric had also prepared humus and salsa. That goes a long way to creating a positive podcasting environment.
So if you are a fan of the podcast, you should listen to this week’s episode. I think we were somewhat amusing.
Geeks Without God and Appropos of Nothing – Together Again!
In preparation for the Fearless Launch Party this Saturday, we scheduled an epic podcasting EVENT with our pals over at Apropos of Nothing. Last week, the three of us were guests on their podcast. There was a lot of drinking and rambling conversations about all sorts of stuff. It was fun but none of us had enough. The only solution? Another podcast! Only this time the podcast would be on our terms!
So the three of them joined us and we recorded an episode of Geeks Without God featuring our first theist (Jena) and our “first” returning guest (Matt is actually our second but the episode with our first hasn’t aired yet). By virtue of being a returning guest, Matt was tasked with asking us five questions. And with Jena and Salsa being new guests, they had to answer our five questions. That was four people answering five questions apiece. So what you get is an episode nearly that is nearly an hour-long and involves nothing more than answering a bunch of questions.
I swear it is a lot more interesting than I just made it sound. Listen for yourself!
Another Podcast Guest Appearance

This week, my Geeks Without God colleagues and I sat down with the good folks at Apropos of Nothing to talk about Fearless comedy and whatever else came to mind. Actually, we spent almost no time talking about Fearless but it was a good excuse to sit down and record a podcast.
You can listen to me drink good scotch, some chatter about what we all did for New Year’s Eve and near the end, Salsa and I have words about pasta. Frequently we prove that six people talking at once is exactly why most people don’t podcast with six people. Ever.
I don’t want to overstate it, but Apropos of Nothing has never been a better name for a podcast.
This is part one of a massive podcasting crossover EVENT! Listen to part two on Geeks Without God next Tuesday!
Happy New Year from Geeks Without God!
This week’s episode is our six month anniversary! I was pleased to discover that New Year’s day fell on a Tuesday so we could do our yearly recap show on the day itself. Sure, New Year’s Day is an arbitrary assignment but we all made one more trip around the sun so today is as good a day to celebrate as any!
The show features just the three hosts and we talk about cool stuff that happened in 2012, what we are looking forward to in 2013 and the “proper” way to refer to 2013.
I’m also going to remind everyone that you can still donate to Camp Quest today! We have made our goal but it would be super cool if we could exceed it – even by $10. So give something! Just because you can!
And have a Happy New Year!
