For Easter, Someone Decided to Vandalize an Atheist’s Truck
In Crookston, Minnesota, there aren’t a lot of atheists, I’ll wager. I would go so far as to guess even fewer are out about it.
Jeff Carter had a couple of magnetic bumper stickers on his truck that made it clear he’s an atheist. That’s cool, right? I mean, one truck with a few atheist slogans is hardly a problem when there are probably dozens (or hundreds – I didn’t bother to look up the population of Crookston*) of vehicles with Christian bumper stickers in the same town.
Apparently flaunting your atheism in Crookston is not cool, though. At least not cool to the (I assume) Christians who vandalized Carter’s truck.

Jesus rose from the dead! Praise god! Let’s go write some Christian shit on an atheist’s truck!
How do we know they are Christians? Because they wrote phrases like “Jesus is Great” and “God is Life” on his truck. Now I suppose it is possible that a couple of Crookston Jews pissed off at Carter’s atheism but decided they should frame some Christians but that might stretch the imagination a bit too far.
And look – I know these assholes are not indicative of almost every other Christian in the country. Even the ones who voted for Donald Trump. They are outliers.
They serve as a reminder, though. The next time a Christian complains about how they are being oppressed by modern society, remember that there aren’t a lot of atheists going around vandalizing cars with Christian bumper stickers.
I assume because they aren’t really sure what to write on the car. “Science is great?” “I totally came from a monkey (even though I didn’t – monkeys and I share a common ancestor)?” “Atheists make better cookies (citation needed)?”

Get Raped at Pensacola Christian College and…Get Expelled!
Wait…what????
Welcome to a right-wing Christian college! We want to make sure that you follow the straight and moral path so if your boyfriend abducts you and rapes you in a construction site, we’ll ensure you know it is because you are a spoiled vessel who doesn’t deserve to be around decent people! Especially decent men like your rapist boyfriend!
A regular by-product of fundamentalist religion (any fundamentalist religion) seems to be the shaming of women. It isn’t enough that you are subservient to men. You should, in fact, be ashamed of your gender. If you are raped, it is your own fault for existing.

Actually, it’s Eve’s fault. Blame her for the fact being a woman is so awful. The church isn’t run by a bunch of misogynist assholes. It’s her fault!
As is frequently observed, this attitude is no more helpful for men than it is for women because it teaches men that they have no responsibility for their own behavior. Basically, if you are a guy who sexually assaults a woman, it isn’t your fault. You can’t control yourself. She is supposed to do that for you. If she fails to control your sexual urges, she should be punished.
Tell me again how religious liberty is under attack in this country.

Student Suspended For Pretending He Was Having Sex With a Teacher
What pisses me off is the simple fact that every time someone makes a false accusation, it is that much harder for someone who is actually a victim.
Now let’s be clear – this kid was making a joke. He was not trying to get anyone in trouble. What he didn’t realize is that his joke had real world consequences. He could have cost an innocent teacher her job.
Because even if everyone reading his tweet knew that he was telling a joke, law enforcement has to act as if he wasn’t. Because what if he wasn’t?
Excuse me, ma’am. I’m going to have to take you down to the station and scare the shit out of you because one of your students is an idiot.
This kid did something stupid and while his lengthy suspension may be a little bit severe, kids need to understand that what seems like an innocent joke to them can hurt people more than they could possibly imagine. Instead of standing up for him, his classmates should be standing up for the teacher who could have lost her job and gone to jail because of a joke.
And they also need to realize that he made it that much harder for someone who is actually suffering from abuse to be heard.
