Shit that Pissed me off This Week – 8/10
Creationism Craziness
(Sorry folks – the link is broken)
Not content to simply ignore any research showing that evolution is real, this creationist has studied the bible to determine that – wait for it – plants are not alive!
Among other reasons plants aren’t alive: they don’t have blood and apparently you need blood for a sacrifice to god. Since plants can’t be bled out to show god how awesome he is, they aren’t living creatures.
Try telling that shit to the Whomping Willow, asshole!
If you are reading this right now and thinking anything except “what a complete loon,” please don’t tell me. I want to believe that the only person on Earth who is that messed up is the guy who wrote the original piece.
It’s not a big deal but it’s kind of a big deal

I can’t recall a time where I would have characterized myself as a “writer.” I’ve written things, sure. I blog almost every day. I’ve written lyrics for a lot of silly songs. I’ve even written some plays and comedy sketches that (much to my relief) made people laugh.
But I’m not a writer in the way that some of my friends are writers. I don’t imagine I will ever be that kind of writer. That isn’t what I want to be.
As of now, however, I am a published writer. My essay is included in the anthology publication “Atheist Voices of Minnesota.” It’s an essay about summer camp, Scouting and S’mores. I’m proud of the story I wrote even though all I can see now are better ways to tell it.
I guess I’m a writer after all.
Other essays in the book are by people who would have no difficulty defining themselves as writers. Still others are by people who are just like me. They don’t think of themselves as writers any more than I do.
We all have one thing in common, though. We are all atheists and we all had a story to tell. I hope you’ll enjoy everyone’s stories.
I just received my copy of the book so I’ve not had a chance to read those stories yet. I’m looking forward to seeing what the other writers have to say.
To read more about the stories in the book, read Stephanie Zvan’s nice blog post about it.
If you purchase the book, all the proceeds go to Minnesota Atheists, a 501c3 non-profit.
On Judgement, Good, and Evil
I’m back to answering a series of comments in response to this blog entry.
I have a lot to say about this particular comment because here we are getting to the crux of all I feel is wrong with the Fundamentalist Christian perspective on reality. If there is such a thing as an “all loving” god, I simply can’t see how that is represented in a fundamentalist interpretation of biblical teachings.
So here, then, is my original answer to question #8, which read: If you were to die, and you were before God. And he was getting ready to pass judgement on you, What would be your reaction or thoughts? What plea would you give him so he does not judge you harshly?
Fringe Reviews – Day 5
I’m still basking in the glory of team Rock-it Man winning the Fringe trivia contest last night thanks, in almost no part, to me. I did know the exact number of seats available in the Rarig Experimental so I feel like I earned the share of the $75 gift certificate that paid for my dinner.
I had performances of both of my shows last night so I was only able to catch two others. One I loved. The other…
Well of Course we all Take it Personally
One of the best parts of the Minnesota Fringe experience is Fringe Central. After a full day of fringing, you can spend time with the other artists producing shows and talk about your shared experience.
I mean, we’re all putting something out there and hoping like crazy that the audience likes what we are doing. When we do it any other time of the year, we don’t have the benefit of spending the evening drinking with a bunch of other people who are doing the same thing at the same time.
While we spend a lot of time talking about how much we liked each others shows, we talk about other stuff as well. We talk about why we decided to do the show we did. We talk about how we approached our work this year. We talk about reviews.
Ah the reviews.
New Episode of Geeks Without God is LIVE!
This week’s podcast is just the three hosts talking about our latest geeky obsessions and answering a few condescending questions about atheism. This is only our second “just the three of us” podcast and I think we started to get the format down for that type of podcast.
So go over and have a listen. Of course, you now also have the option to listen on iTunes!
Fringe Reviews – Days 3 & 4
I managed to watch several of my friends’ shows this weekend, which means I can spend the remainder of the Fringe finding new producers’ work to enjoy. While there is definitely personal bias because many of these folks are friends of mine, I really enjoyed most of the shows I saw this weekend because, in large part, I am fortunate to have very talented friends.
I had three of my own shows this weekend so I only saw five shows on Saturday and one on Sunday. Here’s what I managed to squeeze in.
New Movie Silliness written by me
I have a new Movie Dick article up for New Content day on the Vilification Tennis website. I make fun of Kate Beckinsale who, I’m sorry to say, is a pretty easy target.
Fringe Reviews – Day 2
Last night, I watched four more shows. My Fringing will slow down a bit this weekend as my two shows open. Here’s the write up of what I saw yesterday. I apologize for the brevity but I’ve got to get ready for my shows at some point!
For the record, The Complete Works of William Shatner (abridged) opens at 1:00 today (Saturday the 4th) in the Rarig Thrust and we also have a performance at 5:30 tomorrow (Sunday the 5th). Stop Talking: A Game of Talking opens at 2:30 tomorrow.
