New Geeks Without God – now With More Liquor

This weeks Geeks Without God was recorded live at Omegacon and we were pretty drunk.  Actually, Nick and Molly were pretty drunk. So drunk, in fact, that I think it is fair to qualify that we were all drunk even though I technically wasn’t drunk at all.  We recorded in front of a live audience and shared booze with them.  I even tried some.  Boy was that a mistake.

We talk about games and movies and a little bit about the gay marriage amendment.  Also annoying mega churches.  There’s a little bit for everyone!  Please listen!

Shit that Pissed me off This Week – 11/9

Pakistani Couple Killed Their Daughter Because She Looked at a Boy

A 15-year-old girl looked at a boy on a motorcycle twice.  Her parents feared she was going to turn out like her older sister who had already “disgraced” the family. She promised she wouldn’t do it again but it was too late because her mother had already thrown acid on her.

The good news is that her parents figure it was her destiny to die like that.  It wasn’t really their fault, you see.  They were just tools of destiny.

It was also apparently her destiny to die because her parents waited almost 12 hours to take her to the hospital after they threw acid on her face.  They would have taken her right away, you see, but it was her destiny to wait.

Let’s be clear: religious fanaticism didn’t kill that girl.

But it sure didn’t help keep her alive, either.

I am Fearless

So if you look at the right hand side of the page, you will see a new button that says I’m a proud supporter of Fearless. You probably don’t care what that means but I’m going to tell you anyway.

Fearless Comedy Productions is a new theatre company conceived to bring together several different comedy companies under a single umbrella that will, we hope, help increase the visibility of all of the.  It is also a company that will be producing and supporting new work.

The idea for this company was mine but I was lucky enough to be working with a bunch of other comedians who thought the idea was a good one. We’ve been talking about the idea for about six months now and we’ve finally reached a point where we can tell everyone about it.

Understanding the Difference Between Stupidity and Apathy

There. Are. THIRTEEN stripes!

This weekend, I decided that we’d play a game called “Are you more American than a Vilifer” with our audience.  I figured I’d ask two audience volunteers questions about Minnesota and American politics to see which one of them knew more.

Several of the questions I asked are standard questions on the naturalization test.  They are things people who want to become citizens of our country are expected to know.

Now understand, I expected that they would do poorly.  I had several “easy” questions prepared just to ensure that they got a few answers right.

The results were worse than I expected.

I’ve Written and Recorded more Stuff you can Listen to and Read!

New content day over at Vilification Tennis.  I’ve written a new Movie Dick article about the upcoming “Oscar season” in the movie theatres.

Additionally, I’ve recorded a new podcast with a few of the vilifiers in which we discuss disparate topics like the price of Brazilian virginity, the most badass American Presidents and Halloween costumes.  It’s a pretty funny podcast, which is good because that was the goal.

So please, listen and/or read!  Thanks!

Italian Judge Sentences Scientists to Six Years in Prison for Failing to Predict the Severity of an Earthquake

Yes, that’s right, let’s discourage people from being seismologists by threatening them with imprisonment if they don’t do a good enough job predicting Earthquakes.  You know, because their job is to be perfect about something we know we can’t accurately predict.

And when they get it wrong, we can hold them accountable when people die.

By god, someone will PAY FOR THIS!!!!

You know, because it makes sense to hold people accountable for an act of nature.

The next time some idiot decides to jump into freezing cold rapids at Yosemite National Park and they die as a result, we should sue the Federal Government because they didn’t give the guy an IQ test at the gate, right?

New Silliness over at Vilification Tennis

I’ve haven’t been feeling The Movie Dick column for the last six weeks or so, which is a bad thing.  If there is one important lesson about writing, it’s that you just need to write.

So this weekend I just sat down and wrote an article about Sinister.  Reading it again this morning, it’s not that bad.  You can read it yourself if you like!

There’s also some other new content over at Vilification Tennis written by my comedy compadres.  Read and enjoy!

Hey Guys! Want to watch me perform way out of my weight class this week?

Thursday night at 10:00 PM, I’ll be a “Celebrity” guest judge for Theatre Arlo’s PowerPoint Karaoke.

As an improv structure/show, PPK is one of my absolute favorites.  Bill and Melissa do a great job coming up with hilarious slides and they are always able to get a great lineup of comedians to assist.  This week’s presenters are Jill Bernard & Eric Heiberg, Joseph Scrimshaw, Sharon Stiteler and Tim Uren.

I will be judging their comedic skills along with my other (actual) celebrity judge, Trace Beaulieu (he was part of a show you might have heard of and also currently works with Cinematic Titanic).

There is no false humility at work when I publicly wonder what I did right to appear on the same stage as these other wonderfully talented comedians.  Frankly, I agreed to judge because I figured it was a great way to get myself into the show for free.

I know it’s a little late on a school night but I can’t recommend the show highly enough.  The premise is funny.  The slides are funny.  The people are funny.  They sell beer there.  What’s not to like?

For information on other performing I do around the Twin Cities and on the web, you can always check out my upcoming performances page on this site.

It seems pretty clear that I never stop talking

Last week, I sat down with Levi Weinhagen and recorded an episode of Pratfalls of Parenting.  I’ve been doing a lot of podcasting lately but I’m usually the host.  It was fun being the subject.  I believe I said interesting and amusing things but I haven’t had a chance to listen to the finished podcast yet.  You can listen for yourself!

Another Podcast? What is it with me?

I’m a bit behind on this one but last week’s Renaissance Music Podcast was recorded live at CONvergence 2012.  The Dregs performed two live songs for the podcast and I also told a story about a time I tore up my knee for comedy.  The good folks at the podcast regularly feature Dregs music so if you are a fan of the Dregs or you want to hear some funny stories about working at the Renaissance Festival, please check them out.
