Self Rigteous Christians have a New Way to be Smug and cheap at the Same Time!
Apparently some enterprising producer of religious tracts has created one that looks just enough like a ten-dollar bill, you can leave it as a tip!
It looks like this if you leave it sticking out just right:

But it’s a lie! A lie meant to prey on the server’s greedy desire to make a living so they can pay their rent and maybe catch a godless movie once in a while.
Pull it out and you get this:

Flip it over and you get a sermon about how eternal salvation is better than money!
Bam!
You can jam god down your server’s throat and save a few bucks! Thanks Jesus!

This Story of how a Small Town Harassed and Drove out a Rape Victim
So a 14-year-old girl was raped by the grandson of a Congressman and her family was driven out-of-town. And their house was burned down.
They burned down a family’s house because someone raped their daughter.
I don’t care to count the number of times I have personally witnessed women making a claim of having been assaulted and being met with hatred and disbelief. Beyond the fact that it is clearly human nature to try to blame victims of heinous acts (or we’d all stop doing it), we have the fact there were mountains of proof against the perpetrator of this crime.
Too bad he was a popular football player. We all know that football is more important than a young girl’s life.

How DARE that young woman allow herself to be raped right before the big game????
I read this story and had but one thought: aside from the victim and her family (who have nothing to be ashamed of) nobody involved in this situation should be proud of themselves. They have established a pattern that should never be established.
When teenagers do horrible shit like this and get away with it, they have learned a valuable lesson. They can do it again.

Arizona Exorcists Go to England Because of Harry Potter
Take a look at the faces of these girls. They are filled with the same kind of crazy that you find on the face of Michele Bachmann. They are still teenagers.
They didn’t come up with this insanity on their own. It was taught. Someone mucked about with their brains in completely unacceptable ways.

Don’t touch it! It’s eeeevil!!!!
But you know why they are getting attention? Because they are photogenic. They are well dressed and their hair is done right and they are young and so the news will spend a lot more time on them than their particular brand of crazy should warrant.
As a result, they will take themselves a lot more seriously than they should.
And the cycle continues.

The Shitstorm Surrounding Miley Cyrus
So Cyrus did a performance at the MTV Video music awards that was two things: 1) Blatantly sexual and 2) Artistically awful.
Now the VMA’s are about the most gaudy ridiculous spectacle in music so the fact she was part of a gaudy, ridiculous performance should be neither shocking or upsetting. That’s what the show is all about.
The fact people are pitching a fit because she exhibited hardcore sexuality when she’s only (gasp) twenty is what is really bugging me here. Because if Miley Cyrus was a twenty something guy grabbing his crotch and dancing suggestively and her name was…say…Michael Jackson, hardly anyone would be complaining.

Woo!
Cyrus, though, is a girl woman and she’s not Madonna.
Of course, Madonna got all sorts of crap for being brazenly sexual as well.
Having watched the video, I think that the performance was awful. Her singing was breathy and not in her strongest range. She was more interested in showing off how “grown up” she was than in being a good singer (and she is a good singer – even if you don’t like what she sings). Her “dancing” consisted mostly of gyrating and sticking out her tongue. The three songs they chose to mash-up don’t really fit together. What was with the teddy bears anyway? I fucking hate “Blurred Lines.”
The fact that Cyrus engaged in suggestive dancing should not be the subject of criticism. It should be the fact she did it badly. If you want to be perceived as grown up and sexy, be grown up and sexy.
But while we all comment about Cyrus, we need to remember one thing. She gave that performance to get attention. And she got a lot of it.

This is actually two week’s worth of stuff and it is still pretty short. I guess that the mild summer is taking a toll on people acting like crazy idiots. Not all of them, though.
Guy Blew up a Dog But he’s not Going to be Charged With Killing the Dog
Now let’s be clear – this guy is completely nuts. He blew up a dog because he believed it was possessed. Normal people don’t have a tendency to do that sort of thing.
He’s charged with possession of explosives but not with animal cruelty.

In some places, this means the same thing as “beware of the dog.”
Why not?
Because the dog died instantaneously and therefore did not experience any pain.
Now look, the guy needs to go a mental institution because he’s pretty clearly fucked up. Animal cruelty or no animal cruelty, he’s quite a few bullets short of a loaded gun.
You have to wonder about a law, though, that won’t allow you to charge someone with animal cruelty when you blow the animal up. Pain or no pain, that seems like a pretty cruel thing to do, doesn’t it?

British Jackass Arrested for Objecting to Jane Austen
So the Brits change the faces on their currency every now and again to discourage counterfeiters. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work but bravo to them for trying.
Their 10-Pound note currently sports Charles Darwin, which is a great choice. In a few years, Darwin will be replaced by Jane Austen. This also seems like a great choice.
However, a few complete assholes feel that Austen doesn’t belong on British cash because there’s already a woman on every bill produced in the country. The reigning monarch is prominently displayed on the front of every note and Elizabeth is still filling that role thankyouverymuch. Because the ladies get the front of every note, a few assholes think the back should be reserved for the guys.
Anything less than a 50/50 spilt constitutes misandry, or something.

Doesn’t she just look like a feminazi?????
So one fellow was so upset that women were taking over his money, he decided to harass one of the proponents of the change via Twitter. I’m not sure if he was aware that death threats are illegal in England but he sure didn’t seem to be aware that when you make such threats via Twitter, it’s pretty easy for people to figure out who is making them.
Especially when you are sending over 50 abusive tweets per hour. It gets a lot easier to track a guy

Pastor Says that He’s Never met Anyone who Didn’t Regret Having Sex Before Marriage
I must assume, then, that he’s met very few people who have had sex before marriage.
I need to meet this guy because then he will have met one person who is completely happy with the decision to have sex before marriage. Then I’ll introduce him to a whole lot of other people. Many of whom are Christians.
See, I’m used to self-righteous idiots like this talking out of their asses. But why say something so easy to refute? Especially because the guy has to realize that what he is saying is bullshit, doesn’t he? How can you not realize that what you are saying is bullshit when you say something so incredibly stupid?

I’m betting a million dollars that this dude has never regretted having sex outside of marriage.
In fact, when presented with evidence that what he said was bullshit, he turned off the comments on his post and deleted all of the comments that disproved his statement. Because when faced with evidence that you put your foot in your mouth, the best thing you can possibly do is destroy the evidence. And this jerk would probably want to ask me where I get a moral compass without god.
Seems like god hasn’t done him any favors in that department.

There are Almost Literally No Movies Featuring Women any More
The article I link to points out that 90 percent of the films showing last weekend we all about guys or groups of guys. That’s pretty pathetic.
Now I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy watching movies about guys. I’m a big fan of Iron Man 3 and I don’t think it’d be better if it was about a woman. You can’t really make a movie about Superman without making a movie about SuperMAN.
I’m just curious as to why those are the only movies being made. The movie industry will probably tell you that it is because movies about women don’t make as much.
That may or may to be true but there sure isn’t a lot of data one way or the other, is there? Catwoman didn’t make any money because it sucked, not because it featured a woman as a protagonist.
Why isn’t there a Black Widow movie in development? You can’t tell me the legions of Marvel fans wouldn’t like to watch it. Wonder Woman is also languishing in development hell.

A Black Widow film would probably be all about Hawkeye anyway.
I don’t honestly think filmmakers have any idea how to make movies featuring women as protagonists. I understand it is difficult but I don’t think anyone actually gives a fuck as long as Man of Steel has a 100MM opening.
And that kind of sucks for anyone who has a daughter, doesn’t it?
Don’t Throw the Baby Out with the Bad Apple

This week, Kickstarter funded a project that pisses me off. A lot.
The results of this asshole’s project, though, bug me even more.
The project is a book wherein some dude from Reddit gives all sorts of horrible relationship advice to other dudes from Reddit. The excerpts I’ve read are, at best, encouraging sexual assault and, at worst, encouraging rape. Further, they seem to imply that women really want to get raped so it is all OK.
I don’t get the feeling the guy is trying to write a satirical piece. I think he’s dead serious. I have no idea if he is getting a lot of “action” using the techniques he will be describing in his book but if he is, I’m not thinking that he has a lot of repeat dates.
The very idea that all women are the same and you could write a book that will somehow provide dudes a “cheat code” is pretty insulting to 1/2 our population already but when that supposed “cheat code” involves behavior that could easily be rape, it crosses a line.
An Imperfect Response
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about Ron Lindsay’s tone-deaf greeting at the Women in Secularism conference. I wasn’t the only person who wrote about it.
Other people who are friends and acquaintances wrote about it as well. They were pretty teed off. I could see why.
Now, a lot of people seemed to think that there was a call for Lindsay’s to be ejected from his position with the Center For Inquiry. I didn’t see that call in the pieces I read. The letter to the CFI board signed by speakers at the conference did not ask for his resignation. I saw a lot of people asking the CFI board to do “something” in response to the situation.
