NRA Board Member Chooses the Occasion of a Tragic Shooting to Blame the Victims
I could mention a lot of things that piss me off about the latest mass shooting in Charleston.
I’m pissed that in spite of the fact the killer is a self admitted racist, there are lots of people who insist that this wasn’t about race.
I’m pissed because South Carolina still flies the Confederate flag at its state capitol and state leaders continually try to pretend there are no racist connotations that can be associated with that flag.
And I’m pissed because every time there is a mass shooting, some pro-gun nuts find ways to blame it on the victims because they weren’t carrying a gun.
This dude blames one of the victims because he was a legislator who actively campaigned against allowing guns in churches. As if that is some sort of crazy far left-wing position that made him some sort of fringe politician.
What kind of whacked out liberal would oppose guns in churches?
The NRA solution to gun violence is always MOAR GUNZ! I guess I understand because that’s their solution to everything.
One wonders, though, if just once they could wait until the bodies are in the ground.

There’s a New Kids’ Book About Hell
If you believe in hell, you don’t want your kids to go there. I understand that on a basic level.
Yet, when someone makes a book that is meant to scare kids into believing in god, I feel as if they need to question their fundamental beliefs.

Actually, this kind of looks like something from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Maybe it’s cooler than I thought.
They make god out to be a weak and petty tyrant. A tyrant who will punish kids for all eternity because two people ate a fruit they weren’t supposed to eat. Maybe it was an apple. Maybe it was a pomegranate. Maybe it was a tomato. Because tomatoes are a fruit.
Hell is a horror story. Most kids don’t respond well to horror stories. This book is intended to create faith through fear. I guess I feel god shouldn’t need to scare kids into believing.

Cardinal Raymond Burke was featured here just last week. I think it is fair to say that he has a big problem with homosexuals.
He also seems to have an even bigger problem with people who feel homosexuals have a right to exist without feeling ashamed of themselves. While even the Pope seems a bit wishy-washy regarding church dogma on this particular topic, Burke is not.
He even went as far as to say “Pagans may have tolerated homosexual behaviours, they never dared to say this was marriage.”
Whoa, dude! You know you owe the pagans a lot, right?
If it weren’t for the pagans, we wouldn’t know when Jesus was born. Or when he died. We wouldn’t have an entire holiday devoted to drinking if St. Patrick hadn’t needed to drive those pesky pagans snakes out of Ireland.
So disrespect the gays, my friend. It seems like the only way to get ahead in your particular line of work.
But leave the pagans out of this. What have they ever done to you?

Jeb Bush Criticizes Intellectual Arrogance in Climate Change Debate
Bush is looking to raise money so he can be the third member of his family to be President. To do so, he has to pander to the extreme right wing of his own party and that means his personal opinion on global Climate Change is irrelevant.
The evidence shows that our climate is changing so the right is now simply suggesting that it may or may not be caused by human beings. Who knows? Aside from almost all of the scientists studying the phenomena. Most of them seem pretty certain.

I’m going to be working in hostile environments and paying off student loans until I’m 50 just so people can call me “intellectually arrogant.”
Anyway, Bush goes so far as to say believing the scientific community amounts to intellectual arrogance.
It’s all so cynical because Bush is saying these things to raise money. Solving a potential global crisis doesn’t matter to him or the people giving him money. They genuinely don’t give a fuck if climate change is caused by humans or not.
Because no matter what is causing it, they don’t want to do anything about it.

Men’s Rights Idiots are Upset About Fury Road Even Though They Haven’t Seen it Yet
I haven’t seen the film yet. I’m very much looking forward to the film and I have to admit, the fact a bunch of Men’s Rights jackasses are upset about the film makes me want to buy two tickets just to piss them off a little bit more.
The basic issue seems to be the idea the film has a woman who is, apparently, pretty badass. This, apparently, takes away from the badassness of Max because a dude cannot be badass if there is a badass woman around.

Here’s Arnold Schwarzenegger from Terminator 2. The one with the bad ass version of Sarah Connor. See how emasculated he looks?
I can see how this would ruin a movie for someone who has no interest in anything more than watching dudes blow stuff up.
Should that be their primary interest, I think they would be happier with the Expendables franchise. Or the Die Hard franchise. Or any number of other films that are all about dudes blowing shit up.
What I really want to do is buy an extra ticket and send it to one of these guys. Then I can tell them their boycott of the film failed because I bought a ticket for them.

Guy Kicks Hiking Trail off of His Property Because Hikers are Being Assholes
The Superior hiking trail is getting a permanent detour because some hikers seem to think that signs saying “no camping” and “private property” mean “camp here any time you want!”
The signs also mean “verbally abuse people doing stuff you don’t approve of” and “throw trash everywhere.”
While I’ve never hiked the superior trail and I probably never will, I’m still annoyed that a bunch of jackass hikers made things so difficult for the landowner that he decided to kick the trail off of his property. I could wish the guy would have been willing to deal with the issues but since the land belongs to him, he gets to decide when he’s had enough.
As of today, those dipshits who couldn’t manage to follow the rules when they were on someone else’s land will be equally adept at ignoring the rules when they are on public land. But at least one guy won’t have to deal with it.

Atheists put up a Billboard and After Five Days, It Gets Taken Down
Apparently, the owner of the lot where the billboard was posted told the advertising company that they needed to remove the ad or remove the billboard. I would seem Jesus was threatened by the following sign:
Holy fuck! They were telling people who didn’t believe in god that they might not be the only ones! How offensive!
Let’s turn this around for a moment. Had a billboard read “Believe in god? You’re not alone,” would anyone have complained that the message was offensive? Had an atheist owned the land where that billboard was posted, would they have demanded it be removed?
Of course not. But if you don’t believe in god and you tell people about it, that’s offensive. You are attacking their faith!
Except you aren’t. You aren’t saying “aren’t people who believe in god stupid???”
Because you don’t think that. Unless we are talking about the dude who bitched about this sign. I think he’s kind of stupid.

Police Officer Shot a Man in the Back and was Caught Lying About it
If you click through to the link, there is video of a man being shot to death. That’s important to know because you might not want to watch such a thing.
Early reports about this incident indicated that the victim tried to take the officer’s taser and the officer shot him in self-defense. That was the story the officer repeated over and over again. And it was a lie.

If I said I didn’t like ice cream, it would also be a lie. A harmless lie. So when the officer lied to save his skin, it’s kind of like that, right?
Even if the victim had tried to take a taser before the video starts, it is obvious he posed no threat to the officer when he was running away and eight bullets were fired at his back.
Without that video, the officer would not be facing murder charges. Thousands of people would be telling us that we weren’t there so we couldn’t know what really happened. We should take the word of the police officer because why would he lie?
I don’t know. Maybe for the same reasons as anyone else?

High School Orders Special Needs Student He Can’t Wear a Letter Jacket
The Principal of the school said he had considered everything and because the young man was only involved in extracurricular basketball, he would not be permitted to wear the letter jacket. He decided to stick with official school policy.
Here’s what he said:
Teachers told the parents they would prefer he not wear the letter on his jacket. We have considered it, and our decision was no. We decided that it is not appropriate in our situation because it is not a varsity level competition.
It seems silly to me that anyone would care if a kid with Downs’ Syndrome wore a letter jacket. If it helps that kid feel like a little less of an outsider, what’s the harm? So you give those letters out as awards to other students. So what?

The wrong person puts one of these bad boys on and the entire High School pecking order is blown to hell!
Do you think those kids are incapable of understanding why that child who can’t participate in “official” sports would want, and deserve, a letter as well?
I just think it’s a shame that policy trumped compassion. Whoever complained about this situation should have their hands smacked with a ruler.

Indiana Passes Stupid “Anti Discrimination” Bill That Will Allow People to Discriminate
In a move that I hope will eventually be ruled unconstitutional, Indiana is the first state in the nation to pass a law allowing businesses to avoid liability arising from discriminating against homosexuals. It will not be the last.
Billed as an attempt to save “good” Christians who simply want to follow god’s law by refusing service to gay people specifically because they are gay, the law is basically protection for a persecuted class that isn’t persecuted.

It’s like an “anti-discrimination” bill that protects white people who don’t want to serve black people. Except you can’t pass that law because everyone knows that’s bullshit.
So what happens if a gay couple runs out of gas in rural Indiana and is refused service by the closest gas station? It’s legal. I know that this law is mostly about florists, bakers and wedding photographers but it applies to anyone who wants to discriminate against someone on religious grounds.
It protects anyone. The Christian right might want to remember that should a time come when they are no longer the majority.
Seriously – since the conservative Christian douchebags managed to get this one passed, I think they should be instructed to put signs in their window saying “No Gays.” I mean if they are going to be given the right to legally discriminate, they should be up front about it right?
Because they are proud of it, right????
