New Silliness over at Vilification Tennis
I’ve haven’t been feeling The Movie Dick column for the last six weeks or so, which is a bad thing. If there is one important lesson about writing, it’s that you just need to write.
So this weekend I just sat down and wrote an article about Sinister. Reading it again this morning, it’s not that bad. You can read it yourself if you like!
There’s also some other new content over at Vilification Tennis written by my comedy compadres. Read and enjoy!
A podcast all about The Shat!
On Friday, the hosts of the “Look at His Butt” podcast came to see The Complete Works of William Shatner (abridged). After the show, they sat down to interview the cast, writers and director.
Fortunately, they loved the show. If they hadn’t, it would have been really awkward.
If you’d like to listen to their review of the show and the interview that features me, Bill Stiteler, Windy Bowlsby, Brandon Ewald, Tim Uren, Duck Washington and John Newstrom, you can do that by clicking here!
I am a podcasting MACHINE!!!!
Alphabetical Movie – Journey to the Center of the Earth
Brendan Fraser’s career is by no means dead but I can’t help but wonder if he actually reads scripts before he accepts a role. It seems like he so enjoys acting that he doesn’t much care about the movies he’s making. How else do explain how the guy makes movies like The Quiet American and Crash while also starring in films like…well…Journey to the Center of the Earth.
As an actor, I like Fraser a lot. Yeah, Rachel Weisz was definitely a discovery in The Mummy but without Fraser, the movie wouldn’t have been nearly as fun. He’s someone who can manage to make a bad movie better by his presence. He can’t save Journey to the Center of the Earth but I don’t think anybody can.
Problem is, he keeps choosing to take on films like Furry Vengeance and it gets hard to know if the next movie will be a good Brendan Fraser movie or a bad Brendan Fraser movie. I mean, I suppose that every actor has that problem but there are a lot of actors who seem to be trying to make good movies every time. Fraser doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Academic Men Explain Things to Me Tumblr
I shouldn’t read these pages. Yes, most men are not misogynist pricks who talk down to women at every opportunity but far too many of them are.
Ladies, if I’ve ever said anything this shitty to you, I sincerely apologize. I’ll try to do better.
Here’s my favorite:
I was at a conference outside my field (I am in Women’s Studies), and a male undergraduate came up to me, saw the department name on my tag, and told me, “no offense, but Women’s Studies is a dead field. It’s built on a fundamentally sexist premise, so it was only a matter of time before you killed yourselves.” Thanks?
Hey everyone, rule of etiquette number one: if you ever need to preface what you say with “no offense,” what you are about to say is really fucking offensive.
2012 Omegacon Movie Room Schedule
About a year ago, I started this blog with a post about the upcoming Omegacon movie room schedule. While not the actual one year anniversary, this post qualifies as my topical anniversary.
The one thing to remember about the Omegacon Movie room is that I schedule movies that I either like or want to watch. Half the time, I’m one of three people in the room so I might as well want to be there.
Usually I cook up the theme for the room way early but this year I wasn’t inspired until just a few weeks ago. The theme for the movie room is “Wrath of God” and it all keys off of the first movie I’m showing.
So here’s the list along with lengthy and pointless commentary:
Alphabetical Movie Blog – Josie and the Pussycats
I don’t think I would have ever seen Josie and the Pussycats had I not watched Mission to Mars.
Mission to Mars is a terrible film. Beginning to end, it is some of the most painful filmmaking you are likely to see in a big budget film. Yet I can’t deny that it resulted in one of the more enjoyable filmgoing experience I’ve ever had.
Alphabetical Movie – Johnny Mnemonic
I’ve been doing this Alphabetical Movie project for just over three years now and Johnny Mnemonic represents the first time I’ve ever been gifted a film just so I would be forced watch it. I’m actually pretty surprised it took so long.
I’ve had friends ask me how the rules work. Then they ask the inevitable follow-up question: “So if I give you a movie, you have to watch it, right?”
With a few caveats, yes, I have to watch it.*
A Spooooky Geeks Without God
Another Tuesday morning and another episode of Geeks Without God! We have another installment of our Geeky Boners in which we talk about all sorts of geeky stuff but mostly Borderlands 2. Man o man is Nick obsessed with Borderlands 2.
I was also allowed to pimp my band a little bit. So that was cool.
Actually, the episode ended up being our longest yet because we proceeded to talk about how much we all like Halloween and it turns out we like Halloween nearly as much as Nick likes Borderlands 2.
So listen up if that’s your thing!
Voting No Twice
I’ve written a ton about the gay marriage amendment because I’m really pissed off we are even voting on such a thing. When it comes to the Voter ID amendment, I’ve been relatively silent.
I have pretty strong feelings about it but the marriage amendment has been far more important to me because I think it is a fight we have an outside chance to win. Voter ID is probably going to happen. I’m not happy about it but I don’t think I can sway anyone who doesn’t understand the implications of the Voter ID amendment to change their vote.
See, the problem I have with is a seemingly little thing that I believe to be more important than any other talking point. I don’t think we should be putting obstacles in the way of voting.
Shit that Pissed me off this Week – 10/12
I honestly wonder if the dude even reviews law before he makes rulings. His most recent comments seem to state that since anti-sodomy laws were on the books for 200 years, that makes them constitutional.
I guess we can be pretty certain he’s not going to be terribly supportive of marriage equality, is he?
See, I understand that there are different legal interpretations of a lot of things but what I don’t understand is how one dude who is so clearly an asshole who doesn’t give a shit about anything except making sure corporations can spend money however they please can have so much power over the rest of us. Yeah, he’s one of nine but he’s one vote you can always count on.
And by that I mean, ask yourself how a jackass would rule on any particular topic and you can bet Scalia will vote that way.

Not that kind of jackass!
