Fringe Reviews – Day 1
Neither of my shows open until the weekend so Thursday and Friday I can just enjoy some shows. Yesterday I saw four shows. My wife and I brought our kids to three of them and then I watched the fourth on my own.
Here’s what I thought about what I saw:
Shit that Pissed me off This Week 8/3
Climate Change Denier Releases Study that, in Effect, says “I was Wrong”
I know, why would this piss me (someone who has long accepted the Global Climate Change is happening and is largely caused by humans) off?
Because it won’t change anything. No amount of data proving that climate change is happening will convince those who believe otherwise.
Not even when that data actually convinces a skeptical scientist. Unless 100% of scientists agree on climate change, the deniers will always have someone on their side. No matter that 97% (or more) of climatologists – the people whose field of expertise most closely focuses on climate change science – believe climate change is real and caused by humans. If one climatologist says differently, we still have a “controversy.”
I don’t blog much about climate change science because I know a lot of deniers and they are smart people who, I believe, are completely wrong on this one topic. My fear is the longer we argue, the more damage we are doing. That is a fear shared by many scientists who know a lot more about this shit than me.
Ah…evolution
OK, time to tackle comment #3 in response to this post.
Here, we are talking about Question #4 (If we are ancesoters/descendants of Apes, then why are there no transitional fossils or species to support this theory?)
A question of purpose
My response to comment #2 from a fundamentalist Christian.
On question 2 (If there is NO God, then there is NO meaning or purpose to Life. So without a God, does life have purpose or meaning? Without God, does the Atheist have purpose?)
Six comments? Really?
Almost a month ago, I posted my responses to ten condescending questions some fundamentalist Christian felt all atheists should answer. They were badly crafted and annoyed the hell out of me.
I answered them in a way that I hoped was both honest and amusing. Yesterday, I received six comments from a Fundamentalist Christian (his blog is here).
I wasn’t sure whether to respond to his comments or leave it be. There isn’t much use debating him as his beliefs are so deeply engrained, I can’t hope to make him think about them. As for me, I find his perspective so horrifying, it only makes me dislike fundamentalism all the more.
New Geeks Without God Episode!
We were fortunate that Rebecca Watson made time for us to interview her at CONvergence. Rebecca is a polarizing figure in skeptical circles and that is too bad because whether you agree with her on most issues or not, she is funny and smart. If you actually make the effort to engage her instead of attacking her, you will find good conversations to be had.
Fortunately, we were able to record one of those.
She talks about misogyny on the internet all the time and frankly, that is really important. We offered her the opportunity to talk about other stuff, though, because we figured she could use a break. The result was a fun geeky podcast.
So take a listen if you would! Learn about a great podcast that Rebecca does as well as her favorite sandwich!
Fringe Festival 2012 – Narrowing Down the Choices
Well, here comes the Fringe! In addition to the two shows I’m Producing, there are a lot of other shows I’m looking forward to seeing at the Festival this year. I don’t imagine I’ll see everything on this list and I’m sure I’m missing some really good shows but right now, my list consists mostly of productions that feature at least one friend/acquaintance of mine.
I like comedy a lot so almost everything I’m going to see is a comedy. I’m sure there will be some great dramas at the Fringe but I’m not a serious guy and that is reflected in my choices.
Someone Decided to do us a Favor!
Hey, over at Geeks Without God, a local graphic designer decided that she wanted to share some ideas for a logo design with us! They are all pretty cool. Here are her four favorites. Which one do you like the best?

Social Commentary Disguised as Humor?
I’m pretty happy with my new article over at the Vilification Tennis website.
I got to thinking how uninformed the American public is in general and how that might relate to death of Sally Ride. So I wrote this piece that went live this morning.
Go check it out and ask yourself, it is so far removed from the truth?
The Complete Works of William Shatner (abridged) preview!
On Monday, we presented a preview of our Fringe show “The Complete Works of William Shatner (abridged)” and we made the audience laugh. I was the straight man. Here’s the video – enjoy!
