Big Fun Radio Writers Wanted
About a week ago, I debuted my newest comedy show, Big Fun Radio Funtime. The idea behind the show is to have a quarterly show that features work by several different writers. That’s where this post comes in.
I know a good number of writers in the cities and I’ve contacted some of them. Mostly the ones I was pretty sure would enjoy writing something in this particular comedy sandbox. Actually, to be honest, they were the people who I could think of off the top of my head shortly after I had the idea for the show.
I missed a whole bunch of other people. Some pretty obvious. Some not so obvious. Maybe you were one of those folks.
So if anyone out there is waiting for an invitation, here it is. Do you want to write for the show? Tell me so. I need four original 10-12 minute scripts per show so I’m going to run out of people on my first contact list in a hurry.
You don’t have to be local, either. I can direct the script and I’ll make sure you get an audio copy of the show so you can impress all of your friends.
Drop me a line. Comment on this blog entry or on Facebook. Send me an e-mail at bigfunradio@fearlesscomedyproductions.com.
I’d love to feature your script at one of these shows. I just didn’t know you wanted to write one!
And on a separate but equally important note – I want to feature solo songwriters and voice actors at each show as well. Do you do one of those things? If so, you could be doing it for me!
Alphabetical Movie – Lady Jane

I have to wonder why anyone in England would have wanted to be born royalty. Seems to me that anyone who was Royalty in the 16th and 17th centuries came out of the womb with a dotted line across their necks to make it easier for the headsman to do his job.
Certainly a movie about the era is not complete without at least once character getting their head chopped off. Usually it’s the main character but at times, five or six secondary characters also get similar treatment.
They’re sort of collateral damage.
Alphabetical Movie – Lady and the Tramp
Please note: I didn’t know the man so what I’m saying is complete speculation
I don’t think Walt Disney was a cat person.
What Lady and the Tramp teaches us, among other things, that dogs are capable of caring for human babies and cats will make every effort to destroy them. While the film stops short of having the cats try to steal the babies’ breath, it sure doesn’t make cats look like loving creatures that could bring warmth and happiness to any home.
It isn’t really fair to judge Disney by one movie, though. Looking at the “classic” Disney films (the ones made before his death), let’s see how cats make out, shall we?
Well..there’s 101 Dalmatians. That movie has..a whole lot of dogs…and…um…one cat. He’s a nice cat so that’s something, I suppose. Of course he is involved in a strange military hierarchy where he is out ranked by a dog and a horse. A horse? Had these people met a cat before? There is not a cat on this planet that would take orders from a horse.
From a cat perspective, the fact horses allow themselves to be saddled and ridden is the source of ridicule and contempt. At least it would be if cats could bring themselves to give a shit about horses.
Stories from a Fearless week of Fearlessness
This entry is going to be pretty long because the last week was a pretty massively amazing week and even though I’m just trying to sum all of it up, there is a lot to sum up.
Last week, we launched a theatre company.
Interesting how I say that so casually. We launched a theatre company. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Any yahoo can launch a theatre company.
That is quite possibly true. Fortunately, when I tossed the idea at a bunch of other yahoos I knew, their initial response was not to laugh at me and tell me that I was a crazy person. Instead, they told me they liked the idea and that they wanted to help. Still sounds pretty casual, doesn’t it?
Double the Podcasting Goodness
As has been the case for over six months now, Tuesday morning is reserved for a new episode of Geeks Without God. This week’s episode is devoted to the fundamentalist Christian film Left Behind which, I was surprised to discover, wasn’t just offensive and stupid, it was also horribly bad.
Given how much the three of us suffered for our “art,” you should head on over and listen to the results of our pain.
As if that wasn’t enough, last week we launched Fearless Comedy. You may have heard me mention it.
At the launch party, Joshua Humphrey of the TC Theatre Podcast interviewed Jena Young (our marketing director and co-author of the YoungNotions blog) and myself about the launch party and the new company.
Click here if you’d like to listen to the results!
Alphabetical Movie – Labyrinth
I’m putting it right out front – I don’t want to hate on David Bowie, OK? I love David Bowie.
I love his music. I had Changesoneboowie on vinyl! When he appeared on the Bing Crosby Christmas special to sing that messed up version of Little Drummer boy, I was excited about it because David Bowie was singing with some old pipe smoking dude with an annoying voice!
Shit that Pissed me off This Week – 1/18
Pat Robertson Thinks Marriages Wouldn’t fail if Women Weren’t So Ugly
A 17-year-old boy notices that his father is neglecting his mother so what does Robertson do? He suggests that the problem isn’t really his dad but the fact that his mother is too “hard nosed.”
Robertson has been a misogynistic douche for many a year and there are times where I honestly wish god existed just so Robertson would get his ass reamed when he finally kicks the bucket. Maybe Robertson is right and I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure Yahweh is going to have some choice words for that smug douchebag.
And another thing – my name is ZEUS! Is that so fucking hard to remember?
Robertson makes the common error of thinking that if there is anything wrong in a relationship, it is the woman’s fault. I assume he bases this assumption on the fact that he’s incapable of viewing women as fellow members of the human race. I don’t know, maybe he’s still pissed about the rib.
Get over it, man. God ain’t going to give it back.
Alphabetical Movie – L.A. Story
I’ve been to a lot of places on vacation and almost every single one of them is a place I’d love to see again.
L.A. isn’t one of those places. For a city filled with movie stars, it just didn’t really feel all that interesting to me. Maybe I went to the wrong parts.
Actually, we were mostly there to spend time at Disneyland. I liked Disneyland. But Disneyland is in Anaheim. Actually, it isn’t really in Anaheim. It is in “magical Disney place” and has nothing to do with Anaheim, L.A. or the real world. While there, though, we took the time to drive into L.A for a day.
Alphabetical Movie – L.A. Confidential
L.A. Confidential is the perfect film to open the L section of the Alphabetical movie project because I have to admit, I’d been rushing to get to the L’s for a while.
I like most of the movies I own. I mean, I wouldn’t own them if I didn’t. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I like some more than others. That means there are some letters that get me more excited than others as well.
Take the letter D, for instance. Man was I looking forward to the letter D. I started out with movies like Dark City and The Day the Earth Stood Still and near the end I got to watch Dr. No and Dr. Strangelove. It was a great letter.
Right off the bat, though, you can see the potential in the letter L. L.A. Confidential is an amazing film. Just knowing I got to start the next batch of movies with such a great one got me really excited.
New Show art!
I’ve not been showing off art for shows the last couple of months because the last two Vilification show posters are good but got thrown together at the last minute. For the March shows, we got a little ahead of the game for the first time in a while.
The March Vilification Tennis show is one of my favorites – the Game Show. I love putting this show together and I love performing it. We all do. It’s one of the reasons we have it on our schedule every year.
My biggest problem is balancing the number of performers who want to appear in the show with the number of performers I can reasonably cast.
Well, it’s coming up and again and to celebrate, here’s the art by John Newstrom! Also, here is a link to show information!
