Dude is Going to Hunt a Black Rhino and People Respond in a Logical Fashion
This is a story in which nobody involved comes out looking particularly good.
One the one hand, you have a guy who is spending $350,000 to kill a critically endangered animal. Yes, that money goes to conservation efforts and the animal he’ll be killing is too old to breed. He’s doing the black rhinos a favor by killing one of them!

This one looks super grateful!
You gotta wonder, though, about a guy who is so anxious to kill one of them that he’s willing to pony up $350,000 to do it.
On the other hand, he is getting death threats. People are threatening his children.
How does that make it better? You don’t like the fact he’s going to kill an animal so you threaten his family?
What a fucked up circle of life.

Teen Makes a Joke on Twitter and People Tell her She Should Kill Herself
So here’s the joke:
This beautiful earth is now officially 2014 years old, amazing
Now shame on her, I guess, for failing to clearly identify her post as sarcasm. I mean she’s only a teenager so it could naturally be assumed that she wasn’t making a joke but was, rather, a complete idiot.
Her joke went viral and when jokes go viral on the internet, two things happen. The first is that a lot of people are amused by the joke. The second is that a lot of other people will completely fail to get her joke and reveal themselves to be complete assholes.

If this was a real book, it would eventually outsell the bible. Ironically, nobody who bought it would read it because they would assume they already knew it all.
The internet, my friends, is the most Democratic place in the world. You want free speech? You can make a joke that reaches thousands of people.
Be warned, however, that some of those people are idiotic. And the idiotic ones are the most likely to say something.
Geeks Without God Explore a Creationist Science Fair
This week’s episode features newly “out” atheist Rob Callhan, who recently visited a creationist science fair. While we’d hoped for stories of truly horrifying science, there was unfortunately very little to be discovered. Instead, Rob told us about the organization that organizes the fair and their scary rules for the kids to follow. Rob also shares his experience when he came out as an atheist to write this article. It is rather elightening to listen to him talk about his experience because while it is typical, it is not what most might expect.
Rob is another great guest and we were very pleased to have him. Thanks, Rob!
The Unassailable Logic of Ignorance
So the quote of the day goes to a creationist on Facebook who just said the following:
When we observe the fossil record we will see only two pieces of evidence with which to make a rational and logical conclusion:
1. Fossils of extinct creatures and,
2. Fossils of creatures that are still living today. From this observable evidence it can easily be seen that ALL the creatures still living today have not changed after “millions of years”. They have somehow mysteriously forgotten to evolve and look identical to their fossil counterpart.
If you, like me, have a logical and rational brain, your response will be something like this:
What the fuck? Are you stupid, crazy or both?????

Apologies to those hoping for lots of stuff from the Republican National Convention. I just can’t get to riled up about a bunch of rah-rah speeches meant to serve as a sort of infomercial for the Republican product. I get as annoyed by the Republican convention as I get excited by the Democratic convention.
Not much at all.
Boy, that Paul Ryan is a lying douchebag, though.
Mitt Romney Pandered to the Birthers?
I have to hand it to Romney. Up to this point in the campaign, I haven’t given a shit about what he’s had to say because he’s been so unerringly dull. He finally said something (sort of) interesting when he pointed out that nobody has asked to see his birth certificate.
You know why that is, right Mitt? It’s because you are white.

Hey Mitt – if you could only ask to see one of these two guys’ birth certificates, which one would you ask?
I think we should start asking to see Mitt’s birth certificate, don’t you? Hey Mitt, where the fuck is your long form birth certificate? How do we know you aren’t Canadian? Or from some Nordic country? WE DEMAND TO KNOW!!!!

Some guy kills a bunch of people in a Movie Theatre and Some other guy on Facebook has a Solution
So first off, thanks for taking a horrible tragedy and making it all about your agenda. Well done.
This is not a guns are awesome/guns are awful thing. I’ve talked about that before. This is a “what are you – stupid?” thing.
You don’t know what the fuck you are talking about because the guy released tear gas into the theatre and then opened fire. If you were in that theater with a gun, you would have needed to get a clear shot at the killer so that you wouldn’t kill any of the panicking crowd that is all around him. In a theatre filled with tear gas. Your odds of killing an innocent bystander are probably just as high or higher than your odds of killing the bad guy.
It’s great to think that if you were there, you would have saved more people. We all want to believe that. It’s bullshit. John McLean is a character in a movie.
A guy walks into a packed theatre, fills it with smoke and starts shooting, a bunch of people are going to die. If you were there and you had a gun, you wouldn’t have stopped it from happening. You are not Rambo.
